Whether you are an absolute beginner looking to discover your voice for the very first time or you are looking to develop & improve your style & technique; sessions can be designed & led to help you reach your full potential in a fun & comfortable manner. Individual lessons will involve methods & good practice techniques to ensure the voice is used carefully & safely – to ensure maximum enjoyment without risk of vocal damage.
Students may start lessons simply because you want to, or you may choose to aim towards ABRSM music exams, college auditions, show auditions, singing with a band, live gig preparation, musical theatre performance – whatever you would like to try working for – we can give it a go together!
Everyone can learn to sing at whatever age and Jules can provide individual lessons with high quality levels of experience teaching younger children, teenagers and adults. With young voices (age 5-14 years) it is particularly important that the voice is explored & used comfortably. The SuperSing approach with all individual students is to develop your natural musical ability by positively encouraging your singing efforts with confidence boosting materials and to foster good vocal technique, communication skills, diction and breathing.
What to expect at your first singing lesson
During your introductory lesson Jules will discuss with you why you want to sing, the sort of music you want to learn, any previous singing/musical experience that you have had and what you want to achieve. Jules will then sing a few simple vocal exercises with you so that she can hear what your voice is like and make suggestions about where lessons could start, suggest repertoire & set some goals.
All singing lessons will begin with a vocal warm-up designed to safely encourage the body & vocal muscles to work with the ear to enhance your singing development. These activities are fun & easy to remember – so you can choose to continue with in your own time between the lessons. The techniques learnt from the warm-up will be applied to the songs that you are working on. Advice will be given on what to practise between each lesson.
Do I need to read music?
Don't worry if you can't read music as if you are interested to develop this ability, you will learn how to do this as we progress. Lessons are generally taught from Jules’ home teaching studio with use of piano & backing tracks where appropriate. Songs / lyrics & backing tracks can be provided to students, which will enable you to learn the music and prepare for your next session.
